The GITEX Technology Week is to be hosted from the 16th-20th October at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event will aim at driving the world’s smart digital transformation, supporting young entrepreneurs and enhancing Dubai and UAE’s standing as the foremost capitals of innovation.
The event will feature its first-ever GITEX Global Startup Movement, which will aim at highlighting Arab and international innovation and entrepreneurship and uniting young innovators from around the world to share, learn, experience and build lasting partnerships.
The event is created in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai, of Dubai being internationally acclaimed as the hub of digital innovation and creating opportunity and sustainable growth as a part of Dubai Plan 2021.
The GITEX Global Startup Movement is one of the biggest global events to be held and will showcase more than 400 startups from over 60 countries, where more than 1,000 entrepreneurs will network, sell and learn. UAE will be represented with 85 startups and 79% of the other startups will be from the rest of the world.
Participating at GITEX will be more than 200 investors and influential tech investment executives from Silicon Valley, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, among others who will help explore, discover, evaluate and fund the most promising startups .
“Through GITEX we want to create the life-changing opportunity for startups to meet face-to-face with legendary investors and accelerator firms, be it for funding support or advisory guidance that shall help them breakthrough in their ventures. There is great aspiration and ambition amongst these young creative Arab minds to change the world with their imagination. By bringing them closer to their fellow startup peers from other countries, some of which are successful references, this valuable sharing experience built through mutual respect and admiration shall inspire their growth and infuse their innovation. GITEX is privileged to be an enabler to create these life-changing opportunities in their entrepreneurship journeys,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, Dubai World Trade Centre, organizers of GITEX Technology Week 2016.
Another interesting feature at GITEX is the ‘Strut-Up’ pitch competition, where startups will go head-to-head to win $160,000 in prize money across categories such as Best GITEX Startup, Best Arab-Led Startup, the Best Women-Led Startup and the Best Youth Start Up.
GITEX is packed with many other activities that will promote startups and bring entrepreneurs to bring them one step closer to realizing their dreams.
